Pontoons are known to be the boats that are flat-bottomed. As the name suggests, they have special aluminium tubes known as pontoons that are responsible for the weight carriage and making the boat stable. Pontoons are used differently in different conditions, foe instance, they can be used for recreational activities in the lakes and the function can also be some industrial duty. Because of their particular structural formation, pontoons come in direct contact with water therefore they have very high chances of getting dirty. This struckness of the dirt e.g. algea etc can be harmful for the pontoons because this reduces the lifespan of pontoon, allows more fuel consumption and also reduces speed etc. Therefore, pontoon must be cleaned from time to time.
- Cleaning:
The most recognized method for pontoon cleaning is with the use of vinegar. It is not only effective but is also environment frienldy. Why vinegar? - Method for cleaning:
The most important thing to keep in mind while cleaning are the proportions i.e. proportion of water and vinegar. In case of harsh cleaning, the ratio of vinegar to water should be 2:1 whereas in case of light cleaning, the ratio of vinegar to water should be 1:1. The steps followed during cleaning of the pontoons are:
- Put the rations of vinegar and water in the spray bottle.
- Gently mix them together and keep aside for about five minutes. So, they can be set well together.
- Spray this prepared mixture over the place you need to clean. It is up to the person if he wants to directly spray the mixture over the pontoon or he wants to use a cloth and first spray over that cloth and then use that cloth to clean the affected area of the pontoon.
- Once sprayed, let it stay on the pontoon for 5-10 minutes.
- Then rinse the cleaning area (of the pontoon) with clear water.
- After rinsing with water, use a towel or a soft piece of cloth to dry the cleaned area softly.
- Keep it aside for a while.
- Pontoon is cleaned.
Note: In some cases, the pontoon has tough stains that require a harsh cleaning. In that case, the above procedure can be repeated two times. Also pontoons must be cleaned from time to time because it not only ensures their good functioning but can also last longer than expected.
