What is Most Likely to Cause Someone to Fall Overboard?

Fall Overboard

While travelling by road, a person can or cannot meet an accident. There is no absolute answer to that safe travels. Anything unfortunate can happen at any unexpected time that can lead to an accident. Same is the case with travelling by air and by boat. These unexpected unfortunate events can be brought about by either the external factors or by some of the internal factors. That is to say that nothing is out there as an absolute safe travel. All over the world thousands of different kinds of incidents happen on the daily basis. Knowing that, preventive measures must be taken to lower or minimize their rate.

  • Factors causing someone to fall overboard:

As written above that factors can be external as well as internal. The type and details of all such factors are written below:

  • Most of the time when somone falls overboard it is because of some sudden or unexpected moments. Such moments might be the sharp turn taken by the boat suddenly that causes a peraon to lose her/his control and as a result he/she might fall.
  • At other times, it can be because of the sudden movement in the water waves. The boaters might not see such wave coming all of the sudden and that, after striking the boat, might make the person lose his balance and cause him falling.
  • In some cases, because of the restlessness or the continuous movement by a person can also make him fall. It is due to the wet surface that a person might slip and fall. This slip can also be cause by wearing some slippery footwears on the boat. Due to the wrong choice of shoes, person may get into a big danger. Therefore, attention must also be paid to the little details.
  • Usage of drugs or alcohol is not appropiate for boating. This can cause a person to not be very well conscious and so a person loses balance and control over his body.
  • Being an amateur while boating can also cause serious issues. One has to “not act as a professional if he is not one” rather accept his place and behave that way. Novices can take wrong steps that can lead them to falling overboard.
  • Bad weather or stormy weather is one of the external factors. This can affect the boat directly and make it lose its balance. This may lead to tilting of the boat that can be dangerous for its boaters and so they might lose control.
  • Some people love trying adventures and in boating they might love leaning over the railing. This can also be hazardous im case a boat tilts suddenly and the person may fall overboard.

  • Conclusion:

In conclusion, everyone on the boat must be made well aware of all the external and the internal factors that might cause them to fall overboard. Prevantion is always better than cure. So, these factors can ot be denied and must be kept in full consideration.
