A PWC is a “Personal Watercraft”. It is small in size and is also motorized, can be used by one or two riders. Personal Watercraft (PWC) is mostly used for leisure or recreational purposes in the lakes, rivers etc. People, commonly, enjoy taking rides on the PWC. It is especially an object of attention among the teenagers as they like to do things different ways and try new things out.
- Capsizing:
The capsizing of a Personal Watercraft (PWC) means the turning of the PWC upside down into water. In easy words, it gets into the water whereas its function is to stay on the surface of the water. This capsizing can be because of multiple factors that includes the over-loading on the PWC, unfavourable water conditions or sudden changes in the movements that a person encounters etc
- Turning the PWC upright:
Immediate measures should be taken in case of the capsizing of a PWC. It is crucial for the well being of the rider. The procedure is divided into steps. These steps are described as follow:
- The safety should be ensured. It must be made sure that all the imdividuals are wearing life jackets or Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs). In a case where a person is not wearing one, he must be given immediately.
- Person must swin to the backside of the PWS so that he can avoid the parts that are in movement because they can be harmful.
- There is always a sticker stuck on the PWC that is for the guidance. A person needs to look for this sticker (especially on the back area of PWC). This sticker guides the way to roll the PWC. This also help preventing any damage that might be done to the engine.
- Then the person must swin above and according to the directions given on the sticker, must move the Personal Watercraft (PWC) with the help of his hands. He must apply his force to roll over the PWC.
- Once the PWC is back to its normal position i.e. it is floating on the water surface, then the individual must climb back on it as soon as possible.
- After being on the top, individual must look for the damage. He should see if any water has gotten inside the engine. Water getting into the engine can be very damaging for the PWC because it disrupts the normal functioning. If the individual see no signs of water near engine then the PWC may function properly and is in good conditions. But if the individual spots water on or near the engine then immediate help must be seek from the professionals.
- Conclusion:
Individuals must be trained before being allowed into any activities even if they are for the recreational purposes. As they say, “Prevention is better than cure”. So, is the case here. Knowledge and ignorance in such cases covers the difference as life and death.
