  • Everyone must wear PFDs or life jackets. In case if the fire is more than expected and jumping in the water is expected then the life jackets may prove to be of very use for the passengers’ lives. Also life jackets must be worn always by everyone for the safety purposes.
  • Look for the fire extinguisher. Fire extinguisher must be used to reduce the fire and water should be propelled directly at the point of fire.
  • Everyone should be requested not to panic. The state of calm should be maintained for doing things properly. Only equal efforts and equal work will lead to some good events.
  • Emergency services should be contacted immediately. This can be done through radio and if the radio is not available then mobile phones must be used to inform the authorities.
  • If the fire is not diminished with the help of fire extinguisher then eveyone must be prepared to leave the ship. Ships have life rafts. These life rafts must be dispelled in case of emergency.
  • If the fire is controlled to an extent then passengers must wait for the rescue services to arrive and there is no need to leave the boat. Just stay there and wait for the services to come.
